It is that time of year again, where we take just a small snapshot of what goes on in the classroom in music. The children have been working extraordinarily hard to create compositions on topics that are aligned with their normal class topics. So, we had: a soundscape of the Goldilocks story; a piece of music based on the sounds of the Fire of London as we imagined them; a rondo worked around an old Norse song called the Unst Boat Song, which was also sung by the children in Norn; three compositions by Y5 showing their development over the year with a piece composed about a river’s journey, a piece of music using an ancient Greek scale which was then transposed by the children and a piece of music about a planet, using musical catalysts from Prokofiev and Holst; and finally compositions based around the theme of Conflict and using picture postcards as catalysts. Interspersed with all that, were items from the various groups we have in school, including a final Y6 trio that was amazing, if a little tearful as it was their last time! To finish, the school resounded with singing, Defying Gravity and Going the Distance providing a wonderful sentiment for our final concert this year. I am, as ever, so proud of the children in this school, their bravery and talent shines through as well as their kindness to each other as they work together to perform. Well done Harston & Newton! You reach for the stars and achieve wonders!!
