On Monday 13th October I travelled to Melbourn Village College to take part in a Netball Tournament with 8 children from Amethyst Class. We were drawn in the A team league so were prepared to take on some difficult opponents. We started off well against Bassingbourn and only conceded one goal with a strong defensive pair of Eddie and Lux. Eddie made lots of interceptions and marked his player tightly. Charlie had a couple of chances as GS but we were unable to score.
The second game against Melbourn challenged the defence but Rytas showed determination and fought hard to intercept the ball. Blake scored a great goal as GA and Poppy supported him as GS. The match ended in a loss to Melbourn.
In the third game we played against Meldreth. Daisy and Charlie were a fantastic defensive duo; they both made countless interceptions and drove the ball forwards. Harston and Newton kept a clean sheet. Poppy and Eddie made some great passes in the circle and had quite a few shots but none were on target. The game ended in a draw.
The final match of the Tournament was against Foxton. Eve took the first pass and got the ball to Lux and then Rytas who scored a great goal. Blake and Poppy had their defence tested as Foxton drew level. Eve worked hard to move the ball up to the shooters and Lux scored a fantastic goal. Harston and Newton continued to attack and Rytas scored a second goal winning the match 3-1. Rytas and Lux made an impressive partnership playing GA and GS.
The children displayed some excellent teamwork and showed their ability to adapt to different positions as they rotated position for each game. Thank you to Lux for captaining the team and for parents who gave children lifts to and from the event and came to support the team.
