Uniform

At Harston and Newton Primary School, we expect all children to wear our school uniform. It is smart, practical, and helps to build a strong sense of community.

We are committed to keeping uniform affordable:

  • Most items can be purchased from any supplier.
  • Good‑quality second‑hand uniform is available to buy through the school office (50p–£1 per item).
  • Items with the school logo can be ordered online via Your School Uniform or through the link on our school website.

Please order in good time for the start of term. As a guide:

  • Orders placed by late June/early July: approx. 3–4 weeks delivery
  • Orders placed late July/early August: approx. 4–5 weeks delivery

Required Uniform

  • Sweatshirt, cardigan, or fleece: Red (logo optional; plain items acceptable)
  • Shirts: White or red polo shirt, polo neck, or white shirt/blouse
  • Trousers/shorts: Grey or black (jeans are not permitted)
  • Skirts/pinafores: Grey or black
  • Dress: Red gingham (summer/warm weather)
  • Shoes: Plain black school shoes (trainers are not permitted; children should have trainers for PE)
  • Year 6: Royal Blue sweatshirt

Jewellery & Appearance

  • Jewellery: Only small round ear studs (gold or silver) and watches are permitted.
    • Earrings must not be worn for PE. They should be left at home on PE days or removed by the child.
    • No rings, bracelets, or necklaces unless worn for religious or medical reasons (please inform the class teacher).
  • Hair: Long hair (shoulder length or beyond) must be tied back. Hair falling across the eyes should be tied back or held with a modest red or neutral hairband.
  • Nails: Nail varnish should not be worn.
  • Shoes: Plain black, suitable for playground use.
    • No high heels, slingbacks, flip-flops, or crocs.
    • Sandals must have a back and strap.
    • Flat, dark-coloured boots may be worn in winter.

PE Kit

Children are expected to change into PE kit for lessons and should not wear uniform polo shirts or jumpers for PE.

  • House T-shirt: Coloured (school-issued or plain) or plain white T-shirt
  • Shorts/skort: Black or navy
  • Tracksuit/jogging bottoms or sports leggings: Any colour (preferably items already owned)
  • Warm long-sleeved top: Hoodie, fleece, sweatshirt, or tracksuit top (any colour)
  • Trainers: For PE only
  • Socks: Spare pair for PE

PE kit should be kept in a named drawstring bag, brought to school on Monday and taken home on Friday.

PE Day Routine

  • Morning PE: Children wear PE kit to school and change into uniform afterwards.
  • Afternoon PE: Children wear uniform to school, change into PE kit for the lesson, and go home in PE kit.
  • Each class will be informed of their PE days at the start of the school year.

Woollen jumpers, football kits, and fashion items with slogans are not appropriate for PE lessons. Football kits may be worn for extra‑curricular clubs only.

Lost Property

To help us return items quickly, please ensure all uniform and PE kit is clearly named.
